Day 3 – Lupron, Menopur & Follistim

Sunday, August 5, 2012

In addition to the Lurpon I have started on 150 units of Menopur and 300 units of Follistim.  On the last two cycles I was taking 300 units of Menopur.  Dr. Burger thinks that 150 units of Menopur will be enough.  She states sometimes a higher dose is not always better.  If we have to increase the dosage we can do that as we go along with the process.  Below is a re-cap of what the Menopur and Follistim do during an IVF cycle.

  • The Menopur is a highly purified preparation of naturally derived gonadotropins, called hMG. Menopur contains equal amounts (75 IUs) of 2 kinds of hormonal activity: follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which helps stimulate egg production; and luteinizing hormone (LH), which helps the eggs mature and release (ovulate).
  • Follistim (Follitropin, r-FSH) is a recombinant (synthetic) version of human follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). It is indicated for the development of multiple follicles during ovulation for patients having assistance in reproduction
