Day 16 – Progesterone Shot & Nurse Visit

Friday, June 1, 2012

I received a call today from Dr. Arredondo about the embryo transfer.  We batted around the idea of doing the transfer today, but he thought it was best I get a couple of more days of the progesterone in my system.  One egg has 8 cells and the other egg has 4 cells.  He stated that they were looking okay and both look like they will make it thru to Sunday.  So we decided to do the embryo transfer on Sunday and we needed to arrive at RMA at 8:30am.

I also talked to the embryologist about taking vicodin and xanax the morning of the procedure.  They never said no to the vicodin but a prescription of vallium will be called into the pharmacy instead.  Apparently the vallium has safer ingredients for someone who might be pregnant.

I also talked with Sharon in Austin about the side effects from the progesterone shot.  I really wanted a prescription for the cronine gel but that is something they do not use.  They think the shots and or the suppositories will give me more progesterone.  Sharon also stated the side effects I was having sounded strange.  Maybe I was allergic to the sesame oil that the progesterone is mixed with for the injections.

I drove to RMA in Austin and received several days of the progesterone suppositories called Endometrin.  I would need to use three suppositories a day.  Sharon also looked at the area where Pete was giving me the shots.  Turns out we were way to high on the hip/buttocks area.  Last night she did confirm he hit my sciatic nerve.  This nerve begins in the lower back and runs through the buttock and down the lower limb.  She drew circles on each side of my buttocks in sharpie marker to make sure we are in the right place.  The nurse also said do not go home and yell at Pete because this mistake does happen to a lot of couples :).  Some couples even use the 18gauge draw needle as the injection needle.  OUCH!!!
